How to get out of the Spam box...
You may receive complaints from individual recipients that see your emails end up in their spam folders. If you have taken all of the previously outlined steps and still see these issues, don’t lose hope; you can still help them get your emails delivered to their inbox. The answer is to have them “whitelist” your emails by adding the emails to their trusted contacts. This is a very simple process, and can be accomplished by following the specific steps for their particular ESP. The following are some common ESPs and how to accomplish the task of adding an email to the trusted contacts.
How to get your emails out of someone’s junk folder!
When someone that you intended to receive an email alerts you that the email ended up in their junk or spam folder, there are steps that the recipient can take to make sure this does not happen again in the future. The trick is letting their email carrier know that they WANT to receive your emails; this way the various filters that the particular provider has employed to protect the recipient from getting spammed won’t catch your legitimate emails. You will note that the process is very similar no matter which service you use; it basically involves finding the email in your junk/spam folder and marking it in some way so that your provider knows you want to receive emails from that sender. Alternatively, you can include the sender in your Contacts folder that is associated with your email, and typically that will overcome any issues with mail from that sender being junk. BUT, if they need specific guidance, here are some quick, simple steps that they can take (and these vary depending on their Email Service Provider):
Apple Mail (From Apple’s Support Page)
If the intended recipient uses Apple Mail and sees your message in their junk folder, they should do the following:
- Tell Mail that a message is legitimate by marking it as not junk. Click Not Junk in the banner of the message; or select the message, then click the Not Junk button (it looks like this: )in the Mail toolbar (or use the Touch Bar).
- Add the sender to the Contacts app. See Use information found in Mail in other apps.
- Review your junk mail settings in the Junk Mail pane of Mail preferences, as well as any rules you might have created to handle junk mail, and make changes as necessary.
